A Number of Affected as Turbulence Impacts Delta Plane Arriving in Sydney, Australia
Several people have been injured following a Delta jet traveling from Los Angeles to Sydney encountered rough air Friday morning.
The flight, numbered 41 "encountered brief turbulence" as it made its approach and landed at Sydney Airport, a representative for the carrier told. Four flight attendants sustained injuries.
The New South Wales Ambulance Service stated they treated five individuals, and transported a trio to the hospital with relatively minor issues that included back pain and migraines. The injured ranged from their 30s up to the 70s.
It is the most recent case of commercial jets experiencing severe turbulence, with researchers pointing out that climate change is a key driver.
On board were nearly 250 travelers and fifteen staff members on the aircraft, the Delta spokesperson said, adding that the plane touched down "safely" at the airport at shortly before 7 a.m. on the day in question.
Emergency responders indicated they received a call just three minutes prior to the plane landed, and emergency vehicles were ready and waiting at the airport.
