Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The buzz about the recent awards show was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team is likely crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, players can look forward to a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
